Mike Braun: I’m Going To Run On The Things I Campaigned On

Like a business, the Governor Elect plans to overhaul agencies that aren’t working well for Hoosiers before giving them more legislative responsibility.

Governor Elect Mike Braun joined Tony Katz and the Morning News fresh from his victory and talked about what he plans to do going forward. The successful businessman plans to run the state of Indiana more like a business than promote political ideology.

Mike Braun:

So, I think property taxes would be the thing I stuck my neck out on 1st. You heard it incessantly for a year and a half or two. I think we got a great plan there. Optimistic, but I’ll get the legislature to go along with it mostly. But the first thing I’m going to do is this is more like running a business than the ideology you deal with in the US Senate or the Congress. I’ll go through every agency, Tony, to make sure they’re working for Hoosiers. About a third of our agencies need some overhaul… I’ll go through each one of them. We got 32,000 employees, give or take 80 agencies, 30 major ones, I’m going to make sure that those are functioning before we put any more legislative responsibility into them and work on the agenda legislatively as well. And so those first 100 days will be looking at the apparatus of government, making sure they’re responsive to Hoosiers and that we’re running it leanly, efficiently, and finding savings that you can put into lower taxes or invest into key things that make our state better.

Governor Elect Braun also talked about our broken healthcare system, rural broadband, childcare and affordable housing.
